    Types of Soil Remediation

    January 18th, 2012 by admin

Soil remediation services can be classified in two types: in-situ and ex-situ. In-situ means that there is no excavation of the contaminated soil. It is generally the most preferred type because it is less expensive, although this method lengthens the time for the treatment to take effect.

Ex-situ, on the other hand, involves excavation of the contaminated area and treatment of the soil in the same site or transporting it to a different site for cleaning. It allows homogenization of the contaminated soil or prepares the soil for treatment, thereby ensuring that the soil gets decontaminated quickly. While complicated and more expensive, the ex-situ treatment is more effective at stopping the contaminants from spreading further.
