I was really excited about the idea of another baby when I was in my late 40s. I was certain that an infertility solution would be simple: women ten years older than I was were having twins. I was willing to have twins, if that’s what it took to get another baby. After the exam and testing, the specialist said that he just wouldn’t prescribe any hormones for me. He had two reasons. First, he figured I didn’t have enough eggs left for him to have a wide choice. Second, my hormone levels were twice what he prescribed for his patients. The ‘not enough eggs’ for HIM to have a choice was weird, I thought. I didn’t want in vitro, anyway. The idea of having twice the prescribed level of hormones gave me a hopeful feeling for awhile. I did get pregnant twice that year, but had early miscarriages.
