Azithromycin API for Acne?

I have known Azithromycin API as an effective macrolide antibiotic, but I overheard two people talking about it as a treatment for acne. The first question that crossed my mind when hearing this was, “is it safe?” I mean, it is just acne. Should people really be taking such a strong antibiotic to treat acne? Anyway, I did some research and I found out that Azithromycin API is a safe and effective antibiotic for acne. In fact, it is proven to be successful within 8 weeks of treatment in 88.5 per cent of patients. I am still skeptical, though. Maybe a dermatologist should discuss this.
