There a lot of evidence to support and a lot of the treatments that is used in clinical medicine. But, there is also a lot of treatments that clinicians use (and use very well) that the research has not been done on. In the absence of evidence (either for or against), there can be a lot of passionate debate about which is the best. These debates can get quite heated at medical conferences and meetings. Craig Payne has come up with what has become known as Payne’s Law to describe this: “The amount of passion involved in supporting a theory and the amount of emotional attachment to a theory is inversely proportional to the amount of evidence for that theory”
