Spray Foam Insulation Is Ideal for Use in New Homes

Our new house is under construction and has reached the point where we need to decide what type of insulation to use. Since I am uninformed about this subject, I asked our contractor what type of insulation he recommends. He explained that fiberglass batt insulation is outdated and spray foam insulation is the best choice for a new home. It has a higher R-value per inch than fiberglass insulation. Foam insulation is more expensive, three times the cost of fiberglass, but can reduce heating bills by 30% saving the homeowner money in the long run. It expands to 100 times its original volume providing an excellent barrier that prevents indoor air from escaping and outdoor air from entering. I asked if the chemicals in spray foam insulation could be harmful to my family or pets and the contractor assured me it is safe to use and doesn’t give off any toxic gases. After talking with him the choice was obvious, so we went with spray foam insulation
